Chennai: Slamming the Congress-led UPA government over frequent revision in fuel prices, former ally DMK today said the Centre seemed to hike prices like it was doing some ‘big achievement' and indicated that it had little concern for people and criticism from opposition parties.

Party president M Karunanidhi wondered how the Centre would feel if it did not hike prices of petrol, diesel and LPG “once in two days”.

“When will this stop? Should not the government work out a solution since this affects people. Is it the duty of a good government to show scant disregard to opposition criticism and keep on reivising prices endlessly,” he said.

Responding to a set of queries in party organ ‘Murasoli', Karunanidhi wondered if the present UPA dispensation prefers that the next government handled the issue and asked “Do those in government think they should not waste their energy in working out solutions?”

He said he felt “delicate” to even issue statements condemning the hike, “but those in the Centre are doing this price hike like (they are doing) a big achievement,” he said, adding the Centre was “least bothered” about opposition criticism in this issue.

Oil Marketing Companies had revised the rate of non-subsidised LPG by Rs 220 per cylinder and that of petrol and diesl by 75 paisa and 50 paise, repsectively early this week.
