Know Dimple Yadav, SP candidate from Kannauj Lok Sabha seat

Dimple Yadav, wife of Uttar Pradesh CM Akhilesh Yadav is Samajwadi Party's candidate from Kannauj Lok Sabha constituency. She is currently the sitting MP of Kannauj in the outgoing 15th Lok Sabha.Dimple Yadav will be contesting against Subrat Pathak of BJP, Kamlesh Chandra of Aam Admi Party and Nirmal Tiwari of BSP.Dimple Yadav was accompanied by her husband and Ruby Dhalla (former Canadian MP and one of the most eminent Canadians of Indian descent), when she went to file her nomination paper from the Kannauj LS seat.Dimple's victory in 2012 Kannauj by poll was a cake walk for her as she won the elections unopposed on 9th June, 2014 after two contestants in Kannauj withdrew from the race making her the winner. Dimple Yadav's election was challenged in Allahabad High Court by a man who said that he was kidnapped by SP workers to prevent him from voting.Let's have a look at the background of Dimple Yadav.Dimple was born in 1978 to a retired Army officer in Pune. Her family originally hails from Uttrakhand. Since her father, Col S C Rawat was in the Indian Army, Dimple had the pleasure of residing in different parts of the nation. She grew up in Andaman and Nicobar, Lucknow, Pune and Bhatinda. Dimple pursued her graduation in Humanities from Lucknow University. After graduation, Dimple Yadav was bitten by the love bug. She met Akhilesh Yadav, who had recently arrived from Australia on completion of his engineering. They fell in love when she was 21 years old. Despite fierce opposition, Akhilesh convinced his father, Mulayam Singh Yadav, to allow them to be tied into the sacred bond of matrimony. The rest, as we say, is history. Dimple and Akhilesh married on 24th November, 1999. Mulayam Singh ensured a grand wedding of which eminent stars like Amitabh Bachan and Rajesh Khanna were a part of. Dimple Yadav and Akhilesh have been blessed with three children. – Aditi, Tina and Arjun. Dimple Yadav is an excellent homemaker as well as a socialite. Despite hectic schedules, Dimple manages to spare time for her husband and children. Akhilesh Yadav has often been very vocal about their affection. His statement “shaadi hote hi kismet khul gayi” is a reflection on the stability of their married life. Dimple is a voracious reader. She is also a talented painter. Dimple yadav may put on simple attire but she has a special liking for sports and especially horse riding. Though she would often accompany her husband to attend public meetings of SP, Dimple Yadav was initially not active in politics. Her entrance into realm of politics turned out to be a very significant step for the Samajwadi Party. Dimple Yadav was defeated by Raj Babbar for Kannauj constituency, in 2009 General Elections. This defeat was seen as SP's decline but Akhilesh Yadav came to the rescue and formulated new campaign policies that once again magnetized the masses towards the party. Dimple Yadav has declared in her affidavit In her affidavit filed along with her nomination papers, Dimple declared assets worth Rs.7,92,64,883 while husband Akhilesh has assets worth of Rs.16,27,12,495. She has Rs 79.66 lakh in her account and 2 lakh in cash (at the time of filing her nominations). She also has investments amounting to Rs 15.56 lakh. Dimple Yadav feels strongly about women's education and empowerment. She has not been very vocal about her sentiments towards the prevailing conditions of UP on public platforms.
