New Delhi: Stage is all set for the single-phase polling in Delhi on February 7 with electoral officers busy in ensuring free and fair conduct of elections.
Political parties have also planned extensively to make sure that that their party wins the prestigious battle. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has prepared booth management plan and deputed councillors as poll managers to monitor the booth committees. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) claimed to have deployed spy cameras to catch any attempt to bribe voters whereas the Congress has also deployed workers at the booth level to encourage voting in favour of the party.
Voting will begin at 8 am and will conclude at 6 pm across 12,177 polling stations in the capital.
Fate of 673 candidates will be decided tomorrow when 1.33 crore electors in 70 assembly constituencies will come out to choose their representatives.
There are 2.27 lakh young voters between 18-19 years of age whereas 38 lakh electorates are under the age of 29 years.
Approximately 95,000 government employees have been deployed on election duty
Elaborate security arrangements have been put in place to make sure that anti-national forces are kept away from the poll process. A senior official said that security during polling would be much higher compared to previous elections.
741 polling locations have been identified as critical polling premises, of which 191 are highly critical.
Delhi's chief electoral officer Chandra Bhushan Kumar said that voter slips have been distributed by the BLOs at residences of voters.
Any undistributed voter slips can be obtained by voters at help desks outside polling stations.
In December 2013, the BJP has emerged single largest party with 31 seats followed by AAP's 28 seats. The Congress managed to bag only 8 seats. The AAP had taken support from the Congress to form government but it lasted for 49 days only.
