New Delhi: BJP's chief ministerial candidate for Delhi, Kiran Bedi today said she would bring civil defence force and home guard volunteers to stop crimes in the national capital, if she became the chief minister.
Addressing a rally in Karkardooma in east Delhi, Bedi said that CCTV cameras would be installed at various places and she herself would monitor the women's helpline number 181.
“Wherever I go, I see tension on every women's face about what will happen to their security? They see me and believe that I can make Delhi a safer place. Your mother, sister, daughter is coming to you as the CM,” she said.
Talking about her plans for Delhi if she came to power, she said, “In the first three days of our government, I will bring civil defence and home guard volunteers. They will travel in buses and on the roads.”
“Some in disguise and some in uniforms. They will catch culprits who still dare to commit acts of crime. I will bring them back and re-train them...We will even put CCTV cameras on roads and hotspots. The 181 women's helpline number will be with the CM itself to monitor.
“We will start a ‘Good Samaritan Award' for citizens who are helpful. If I come to power, I will not say that there is no police under me. Police is there. When the LG and CM work together, then police is there,” she said.
At the rally, Bedi also mentioned about her efforts to “serve the nation”.“This is a critical public rally for me. I wish my parents could see this today. When money and resources are invested in the education of girls... this is how they come to serve the nation. I've been to over 100 wards through road journeys, covered 25 constituencies in seven days,” she said.
Meanwhile, a group of lawyers staged a protest against Bedi and burnt her effigy.The Action Committee of All Bar Association of Delhi, in a statement, said the protest was to demonstrate the high-handedness of Bedi and show the people that if elected, it would not be safe for the citizens of Delhi.
