New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) Delhi unit Tuesday accused the Congress government in the state of ignoring the welfare of Purvanchali community (people from eastern Uttar Pradesh and Bihar) during its 15-year rule.
"The Purvanchali people face identity problems in the city as they find it difficult to get voter identity cards besides registration of births and deaths," said a BJP statement.
The party said it would take up the issues concerning 30 lakh Purvanchali people in the "Purvanchal Sammelan" Wednesday.
The statement said, "A large section of Purvanchali people are compelled to live in unauthorised colonies as they are not able to get affordable houses. These colonies lack basic amenities like water, power, roads, sewage, etc."
