New Delhi: PM Narendra Modi and BJP president Amit Shah are also in favor of seeking a fresh mandate than trying to forma govt in Delhi. In the recent assembly elections, with BJP's government at the Centre and the party performing very well in Maharashtra and Haryana, the party is confident of getting an absolute majority in Delhi.

Even if BJP manages to win all the three seats in bypolls it would not help BJP to return to the office in the state after a gap of 15 years. Tughlaqabad, Krishna Nagar and Mehrauli were the three seats respectively, in the 70-seat assembly that fell vacant after three BJP MLAs were elected to the Lok Sabha. To get full majority, a party would have required at least 36 seats, a number which none of the parties was able to collect.

Though fresh polls are the only option left now, the process of bypolls will continue till Election Commission of India strikes down the notification that may not happen till next week which means that political parties will have to declare their candidates for the bypolls before the last date of filing nominations on November 5.

For the first time, the stalemate ended calmly after Delhi BJP president Satish Upadhyay and Janakpuri MLA Jagdish Mukhi communicated the party's stand to the LG.

Earlier, BJP had turned down the offer to form a government in December.
