New Delhi, Mar 19: The main opposition BJP today said that the "countdown for fall of UPA government at the Centre has begun".
BJP general secretary Anantha Kumar said, the opposition need not bring a fresh no-confidence motion, as the UPA government is found to fall after the exit of DMK.
Anantha Kumar said, it's now clear that the UPA allies have no more trust in the Congress, and the government is bound to fall under the weight of its inner contradictions.
Meanwhile, the Congress core group met this morning to assess Karunanidhi's announcement of withdrawal from UPA. The core group meet was attended by UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Finance Minister, Chidambaram, Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde, Defence Minister A K Antony and Sonia Gandhi's political adviser Ahmed Patel.
Efforts to mollify the DMK will be mounted afresh, Congress sources said.
At the Congress parliamentary party meeting today, party chief Sonia Gandhi made it clear that no country should take India for granted. She was referring to the Italian marines issue.
Sonia Gandhi also said: "We strongly stand for human rights of the people of Sri Lanka. We are fully committed to the cause of Lankan Tamils and impartial inquiry should happen into the allegations of atrocities against them."
