Ahmedabad, Jun 3: The BJP-led Gujarat Government today said that Congress was trying to spread a “charter of lies” against the Chief Minister Narendra Modi to tarnish his clean and transparent image.

Gujarat government spokesperson Jaynarayan Vyas said this while reacting to a petition filed by Congress leaders in Gujarat to President Pratibha Patil today, demanding a CBI probe into the alleged corruption of Rs one lakh crore during Modi's tenure.
“Corrupt policies of the UPA government is irretrievably harming the prestige of India. People are angry with the Central government and this has shaken the foundation of Congress rule,” Vyas said.

“In order to hide their corrupt practices, the Congress was trying to spread its charter of lies against Modi and Gujarat government, to tarnish the clean and transparent image of the state,” Vyas said.

“Even If iota of evidence had existed against Narendra Modi the Congress would have gone to town and finished his political career,” he said.
“So far, they have failed to make any headway in fooling the people of Gujarat, despite spreading lies,” he said. He further alleged that people were wary of Congress, as lies and corruption was “flowing in the veins” of Congress. “Now the Congress is using the CBI to the hilt for its nefarious ends. Yet the people are not fooled and have realised its game-plan,” Vyas said.

“The state Congress leaders have now gone to Delhi to please the Congress high command and gain cheap popularity in the eyes of media which is ridiculous,” Vyas said. “The policies and administration of Gujarat's BJP government is so transparent and self-evident that no former Congress middleman dares to indulge in corruption in Gujarat”, he further said.

Vyas termed the charges levelled by the Congress about the land allotted to industrialists at Gandhinagar, as “baseless and untrue”.“The present Government had announced an incentive policy for Information Technology for five years in 2006. The land was allotted to the industry at market price in a transparent manner in the range of Rs 1,100 to Rs 6,000 per sq m”, Vyas said.

“In sharp contrast, the Congress-ruled states allotted land in metros like Hyderabad, Pune, Thiruvananthapuram, Mangalore and Chandigarh at Rs 125 to Rs 544 per sq m. Which state has indulged in corruption by disbursing land to industries at dirt cheap rates?” he said.

Vyas said, “It was the then Congress- backed Government's in Gujarat, which handed over land to Adani Industrial Group at a token rate of Rs 1 at Mundra on January 31, 1997 and October 8, 1997. Let the Congress find out who was the Chief Minister at that time.”

Referring to Modi's initiative to bring Tata's Nano project to Gujarat, Vyas asked the Congress leaders to compare the policy decisions of the two States as the sops announced by Gujarat were far less than those announced by West Bengal. Vyas dared the Congress to prove the allegations that Gujarat Government had facilitated loans worth Rs 9,570 crore to the Tatas.“The Congress should reveal which bank provided the loan and who were the signatories,” he said.
