Ahmedabad, July 29: Congress MP Vijay Darda today stirred a hornets' nest as he paid fulsome praise to Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi describing him as a "saint" and "a lion".

The occasion was a felicitation function for Jain saint Tarun Sagarji.

With Modi, Swami Ramdev, Tarun Sagarji on the dais, the Congress MP addressed the audience saying : "There are four saints on the dais today - Tarun Sagarji, Baba Ramdev, Narendra Modiji and fourth is, myself."

Soon after, Modi remarked : "I will lose my sleep tonight over Dardaji's statement because he is going to get a notice from the Congress tomorrow".

After the function, Darda understood the political import of his remark and said, what he said at the function was nothing political, as it was not a political meeting. "And those who spoke political issues here, I condemn them", he added for full measure.

Baba Ramdev remarked: "Dardaji has described Modiji as a saint only, next time he will praise him as a Raj-rishi".

At the function, Modi, Baba Ramdev and Tarun Sagarji criticised the Centre's policies.  Modi opposed the Centre's policy to export beef, since the cow is held sacred by Hindus.

Baba Ramdev described Sonia Gandhi as "the queen of looters", while Tarun Sagarji said, the Centre appears to be hard of hearing.

Ramdev said, during the British rue, the Queen of Britain used to adorn looters of colonies like India with the prefix Lord, and here, in India, looters are being honoured by making them cabinet ministers.

In Delhi, Congress spokesman Mohan Prakash said, Vijay Darda would be served a show cause notice by the party, if he has made remarks in praise of Narendra Modi.
