New Delhi: Congress may have a new AICC general secretary in-charge of Delhi, Haryana and Punjab as incumbent Shakeel Ahmed is going abroad for three months from December end on a personal call.
Congress sources said after Ahmed informed the leadership about this personal leave requirement from December 28 to March 7 when he will return from Canada, the party leadership has decided to make the alternative arrangements.
After writing a letter to Congress President Sonia Gandhi in this regard a week ago, he had also met her in this regard. As Delhi Assembly elections are expected in January or February, the party leadership could find a replacement for Ahmed very soon.
P C Chacko, who had served as member of AICC Screening Committee in-charge for Delhi, Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh, has already begun looking after party affairs in the national capital. He may be given the charge of other states well. When contacted, Chacko said there is “no official intimation” to him yet about he being given the charge of these states.
Ahmed said he had intimated the party leadership about his leave requirement and as such somebody else is likely to get the charge of these states especially Delhi soon.
