New Delhi: Delhi unit of Congress today held conventions as part of its celebrations to mark 125th birth anniversary of India's first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru.

The conventions were held by party's Najafgarh and Kirari district committees at VBM School in Naya Bazar and Shivam Garden in Bawana respectively.

The party also screened a short film on the life and achievements of Nehru at both the conventions.

"Nehru's contribution for all-round development and growth of India post-Independence was unmatched as he had laid a solid foundation for modern India's unhindered growth.

"It was due to Nehru's vision, wisdom and fortitude that India has developed into a world power, producing safety pins to rockets," state Congress chief Ajay Maken said during the convention.

He noted that it was under Nehru's stewardship that major hydro-electric projects and industrial units were set up, leading to India's self-sufficiency in farm products and industrial outputs.

Maken further said the former Prime Minister's policies and programmes have made India a "modern, developing world power" with  its own unique place in all areas of human endeavours.

The former Union Minister also appealed to Congress workers to attend in large numbers the concluding function of the late leader's birth anniversary celebrations at Indira Gandhi stadium on November 14.

Besides Maken, ex-MP Mahabal Mishra, former MLA Surender Kumar, Jai Kishan Sharma and Sadhu Ram Mittal addressed the conventions.
