Congress candidate on 'padyatra' awaits Rahul Gandhi to join

Chandauli: Having hit the ground, literally, for Lok Sabha elections, the Congress candidate here is waiting for party Vice President Rahul Gandhi to join for a day on a ‘padyatra' he embarked on April 9.

Chandauli's 29-year-old Congress candidate is one of the young faces hand-picked by Rahul in these Lok Sabha elections, although he was slapped with a six-month suspension in October 2010 for indiscipline barely two months after being made central zone president of Youth Congress.

Patel, who filed his nomination on April 19, is pitted against Samajwadi Party's sitting MP Ram Kishun Yadav, while BJP has fielded ex-MLA Mahendra Nath Pandey from this seat.

The Congress leader said his convoy moves with one ‘rath' which also carries some tents that are used for night stays.

Claiming to walk at least 10 km every day on this foot-march, Patel said he was confident that Rahul's presence would further influence his voters.
