Congress on saturday accused BJP of engaging in a "publicity stunt" after opposition party MP Prabhat Jha wrote a letter to President Pratibha Patil raising questions on the manner in which N D Tiwari episode was dealt with by the government.

"Leaking out the letter to the media soon after writing it raises doubts on whether he really wants a probe or is simply engaging in publicity stunt. The whole mannerism smacks of political intentions," party spokesperson Shakeel Ahmad told reporters in New Delhi.

Earlier, in a letter to President Pratibha Patil, BJP Rajya Sabha MP and its national secretary Prabhat Jha raised questions on the manner in which the Tiwari episode was dealt with by the government.

"Raj Bhawan is a residence associated with the Constitution. The governor's post is a constitutional post which enjoys respect. Did N D Tiwari keep intact that respect?" Jha asked in the letter.

"The matter should be investigated ... and a case should be filed," he said. Insisting that the whole nation was shocked by the episode, Jha questioned the silence of the Congress on the issue. PTI
