New Delhi: Chinese President Xi Jinping wants Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to become the first foreign leader to visit his hometown of Fuping near Xian, when the latter visits the neighbouring nation in May.

The offer from Chinese President for Modi reciprocates the Indian Premier's special gesture to host Xi in Gujarat in September last year.

Sources said that the officials are considering the proposal being made for Indian Prime Minister.

Xi's hometown, Fuping, is a county which lies in the suburbs of Xian city -- a sprawling metropolis in the southwestern Shaanxi province.

Sources also said Modi travelling to Fuping would pose logistical hurdles but there is a possibility that he may visit to Xian.

External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj is presently in Beijing to chalk out strategy for Modi's visit. Yesterday, she had said that the Prime Minister will visit China in May before the BJP-led government completes one year in office.
