New Delhi: Information and Broadcasting Minister Manish Tewari today said the Centre would consider the demand by BJP leaders to order an inquiry by a reitred Supreme Court judge into the case of snooping of a woman by Gujarat police, on orders from above.
Two news portals had published telephonic conversations of BJP leader Amit Shah asking police officials to carry out snooping of a woman in Gujarat, on order from 'Sahib'.
Tewari said, if BJP's explanation is to be believed that the woman was being snooped in order to keep a watch on her security, then it does not answer the questions that are being raised.
"Was any threat assessment carried out? The legal and dignified way to provide security to a woman is providing personal guards with her knowledge. They (BJP) should come clean on this", Tewari said.
"Who was the Sahibzada who ordered the snooping?", asked Tewari. "The nation has a stake in it because it is a clear breach of right to privacy. I want to ask women in India if they would like to be put under vigilance without them even knowing about it."
