Malda (WB):  West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee (WBPCC) President Adhir Chowdhury today accused the Centre of turning a blind eye and deaf ear to the political violence going on in the state.

“Political violence is continuing in many places in West Bengal, especially in Birbhum district but the Centre has not asked for any report from the state government about the continuing violence nor has it sent any team to visit the area,” he told a press conference here.

Chowdhury demanded that a team of the Union Home Ministry should visit the affected places in the state that have reported loss of life.

On the attempt to rape of a woman and injuries caused to her father when he came to save his daughter's honour in Malda district, the WBPCC Chief alleged that a Trinamool Congress minister was defending the accused publicly and trying to project the woman in such a way as if she has committed a crime.

“If a state minister defends the accused publicly then can the police act against the accused,” he questioned.  He alleged that the law and order situation has deteriorated in the state where ruling Trinamool Congress activists were “now attacking police stations and policemen are ducking under the table”.
