Binpur (WB), Mar 19: Accusing the Congress-led UPA government of “playing the politics of money” and “depriving” West Bengal, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today said it will get a fitting reply in the coming days.
”For the last one year and nine months, they are depriving Bengal. We will give a fitting reply to this politics in the coming days. We don't play the politics of money. We don't say we will give this to you, you give that to us. We work with the confidence of the people,” Banerjee told a public meeting here in the West Midnapore district.
Reiterating that the Centre was taking away a huge sum as interest, Banerjee said the state's income stood at Rs 21,000 crore while the Centre took away 25,000 crore as interest.
”On the first of every month the Reserve Bank directly takes the money from our treasury.
They are not even asking us whether we have the funds, whether we can pay the interest,” she said.
She said that she is always worried how government employees and teachers will get their salaries besides pensions, for which Rs 42,000 crore was required each month.
Blaming the earlier Left Front government for “ruining” the state, she said that the Marxists had perhaps thought that the new administration will not run for even three months.
”But we are running the government for a year and nine months. Bengal is marching ahead,” she said.
Banerjee, on her 19th visit to Junglemahal, quoting a central report said, West Bengal has become the first among nine Naxal-hit states in the country to contain Maoist menace and restore peace.
”I am proud of the people in Junglemahal for becoming an eye-opener for the entire country,” Banerjee said.
”While some Maoists have surrendered and received rehabilitation offered by the state government, we welcome others. The state government will also rehabilitate them,” the
Chief Minister said.
Alleging a CPI(M)-Maoist nexus, Banerjee asked the people to be vigilant.Claiming that for the first time in the country,
Junglemahal has reached the target of 100 days work under the MGNREGA scheme, Banerjee said that if villagers can work for 200 days, her government will provide the funds.
She said despite the funds crunch and the Centre expressing inability to fund it, none of the schemes in Junglemahal such as rice at Rs 2 per kg, will be discontinued.
With an eye on the coming panchayat elections, Banerjee announced 49 projects in Junglemahal including a tourism circuit, new schools and colleges, markets and several multi-secialityhospitals besides development of roads.
She said the tourist circuit, at a cost of Rs six crore,will cover Jhargram, Belpahari, Banspahari-belt linking Jhilmil-Mukutmanipur and Jhargram.
She also said that once a new district was carved out from West Midnapore, Binpur will become a block.
