Ahmedabad, May 9: Notification for the by-polls to two Lok Sabha and four assembly constituencies in Gujarat, to be held on June 2, was issued on Wednesday by the state's Chief Election Officer.
As per the notification, the last date for filing of nominations is May 15 and that for withdrawal May 18. Polling would be held on June 2 and counting on June 5.
Filing of nominations started today. However, no candidate filed papers today, Chief Election Officer Anita Karwal said in a press release this evening.
Elections will be held for Banaskantha and Porbandar Lok Sabha seats and assembly constituencies Limbadi, Jetpur, Dhoraji and Morva Hadaf.
Banaskantha Lok Sabha seat fell vacant following the death of Congress MP Mukesh Gadhvi on March 1, while Congress MP from Porbandar Vitthal Radadia resigned following his win from Dhoraji assembly seat in December.
Radadia and his son Jayesh later resigned as Congress MLAs to join BJP. His son was MLA from Jetpur constituency in Rajkot district.
Congress MP from Surendranagar Soma G Patel also contested assembly election from Limbadi constituency, won, but chose to remain an MP.
By-election was necessitated for Morva Hadaf assembly seat as Congress candidate Savita Khant, who won, died on the day results were declared.
The elections would be a test for Congress which had held all the six seats.
In the assembly of 178, ruling BJP has 115 MLAs while Congress 57, Gujarat Parivartan Party and NCP two each and JD(U) and independents one each.
