New Delhi: The first ever woman member of the CPI(M) Politburo, Brinda Karat has proved her mettle when it comes to fighting for women empowerment.The former general secretary of All India Democratic Women's Association (AIDWA)
Born in 1947 in Kolkata, Brinda's family had to move to India from Lahore during partition. Pursuing her education from Dehradun, Brinda moved to Delhi for her higher studies. In 1975, Brinda married CPI(M) general secretary Prakash Karat.
