Chennai: BJP would "sweep to power" in Maharashtra and Haryana, Union Food Minister Ram Vilas Paswan said today.
"The poll results for Maharashtra and Haryana will be out in two days and BJP will sweep to power," he told reporters here after a review meeting with officials of Food Corporation of India and the Tamil Nadu government.
Asked if the August 21 bypoll results in Bihar would be replicate in the Assembly elections there next year, he said "bypolls are different".
In the bypolls, the Nitish Kumar and Lalu Prasad combine garnered six out of 10 seats in Bihar, leaving BJP and its allies "high and dry".
He cited several examples from the past polls to substantiate his point and expressed confidence that the NDA would go on to win the elections in Bihar next year.
"The Janata Dal (United) will be wiped out in Bihar," he said and charged there was no law and order in that state.
Earlier, the Minister reviewed the storage position in south zone of FCI. A team of state government officials, led by Principal Secretary, Food, M P Nirmala apprised him of Tamil Nadu scenario on foodgrain needs, vis-a vis central allocation.
"The Tamil Nadu government has sought additional wheat and it will be given," Paswan said.
