New Delhi, Oct 13: As part of its efforts to reach out to Muslims, BJP on Friday held a conclave of minority women and showcased the implementation of government schemes in the states where the party is in power to convey that it is not anti-minority.

Delivering the valedictory address at the conclave which comprised of Muslim women from different parts of the country, Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj said “in all, the nine states where BJP is in power religion does not come in between in the implementation of the government schemes... be it in Madhya Pradesh, or Chhattisgarh or Goa or even in Narendra Modi's Gujarat.”

Swaraj claimed that when she had visited Gujarat during the recent Sadhbhavana programme organised by Modi, the people there had told her that there is no discrimination against the minorities living in the state.

She recounted that PDP leader Mehbooba Mufti had also stated this in a national meet here when she said there is no discrimination against Muslims in Gujarat.

Most of her praise for effectively running the government welfare schemes were, however, reserved for Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.  She cited the Ladli Lakshmi Yojana for the girl child and said the beneficiaries were from all religions and caste.

“I can say that 10 per cent of those who have benefitted are from the Muslim community,” she said.  Similarly, the Chief Minister's Kanyadaan yojana for marriage of girls from economically weaker sections of the society has helped young Muslim women, though initially there was some reluctance on the part of the community.
