New Delhi: Veteran BJP leader L.K. Advani Saturday said he hoped the party will in the coming days realise the aspirations of Shyama Prasad Mukherjee and Deen Dayal Upadhyaya who wanted to give a new shape to India's politics.
"Mukherjee had once said if we had two-three Deen Dayals, the face of Indian politics would have changed," Advani said, adding that the BJP will have to measure up to the ideals of its mentors as the Bharatiya Jana Sangh (forerunner of BJP) was not just a political party but a complete political ideology.
Advani said BJP achieved extraordinary success in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections and asked the party workers to live up to the faith reposed in the party.
"It is not important how the leaders behave. What is important is how each and every worker of the BJP behaves, how they deal with people, what kind of integrity they show," Advani said.
Advani congratulated prime minister Narendra Modi for the election victory and extended his best wishes to new BJP president Amit Shah.
He said that Saturday's National Council Meet was the most "glorious and organised" one in the BJP's history.
