New Delhi, Dec 30: The BJP Sunday questioned the “hush-hush manner” in which the 23-year-old gang-raped woman was cremated early in the morning, within hours of her body being flown in from Singapore.
“We understand the right of privacy, the right of privacy has to be respected, but the hush-hush manner raises curious questions too,” said Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad.
The BJP leader's comments came after the gang-raped woman's body was flown in at around 3.30 a.m. to Delhi from Singapore in a chartered Air India flight. The cremation took place at 7.25 a.m.
Minister of State for Home R.P.N. Singh, who was present at the crematorium in southwest Delhi, denied any secrecy in the ceremony. He said the cremation was held quietly “as we wanted to respect the privacy of the family”.
“I was there as representative of the government,” Singh told IANS.
The BJP has also demanded a special session of parliament to discuss rising crimes against women.
