BJP notice to Congress for linking Modi to hawala accused

Ahmedabad: BJP has sent a legal notice to the secretary of the Indian National Congress, Union Minister Kapil Sibal and party spokesperson Randeep Surjewala, reacting to allegations regarding BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi's proximity

The notice has demanded that the Congress submit “prudent materials” except photographs within 12 hours of the receipt of the notice.

On April 28, the Congress has released a compact disc (CD) purportedly showing Modi in pictures with Fatta who was arrested in connection with an alleged Rs 1,000-crore hawala racket and dared the BJP's prime ministerial candidate to submit himself to an independent probe.

Claiming Fatta to be a “well known BJP supporter and a protege of Modi”, Congress party spokesman Randeep Surjewala had said that he was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate of Ahmedabad and Surat which had unearthed a major hawala racket after raiding his residence.

The Congress CD was released a day after the BJP had released a video CD targeting Robert Vadra, son-in-law of Congress president Sonia Gandhi, over his alleged land deals.

The Congress has already dismissed the charges as “trash”.
