New Delhi, Nov 4:To counter the ruling Congress's mega rally here, the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) Delhi unit Sunday observed a 'Black Day' with a series of protest rallies in the national capital to oppose the government's economic policies, especially the move to allow FDI in multi-brand retail.

"We are holding separate demonstrations on the issue by talking to the aam admi about the effects of FDI. The Congress is just misguiding the public; but the public has never supported and will not support foreign direct investment in multi-brand retail," Delhi BJP chief Vijendra Gupta told IANS.

The BJP party supporters marched across the city carrying black flags while senior leaders of Delhi BJP unit Vijay Kumar Malhotra, Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, Vani Tripathi and Aarti Mehra led protests in areas like Kingsway Camp, Madhuban Chowk, Vikas Marg, Tilak Nagar Market, Kamla Nagar Main Market and New Ashok Nagar.

"Several traders' organisations are supporting our protest against FDI. Our dharna at 14 spots in Delhi started at 10 a.m. today (Sunday) and will end at 8 p.m. We will continue to voice protests against inclusion of FDI in multi-brand retail, corruption and inflation," Gupta added.

The BJP protests came on a day when Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Congress chief Sonia Gandhi and party general secretary Rahul Gandhi addressed a massive Congress rally at Ramlila Maidan in the heart of the capital, where thousands of supporters gathered.
