New Delhi: Lauding Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar's role in bringing equality in Indian society, Delhi Congress President Arvinder Singh today accused the BJP of having forsaken his ideals and principles.
Singh termed the role of Dr Ambedkar in the uplift of dalits and other marginalised as “matchless”, at an event to mark the 58th death anniversary of the the architect of the Indian Constitution.
“The contribution of Dr Ambedkar in the uplift of Dalits and the downtrodden people was matchless, and his role in the education of women had a long-lasting effect.
“People are now forgetting his invaluable contribution in bringing parity and equality in the Indian society. The BJP has forsaken his ideals and principles,” he said.
Floral tributes were paid to the portrait of Dr Ambedkar at the event, presided over by former councillor Tarun Kumar, organised at the DPCC office here.
Dalit community has significant influence in around 12 assembly constituencies out of 70 in Delhi. The Dalit voters are estimated at around 22 lakh out of 1.20 crore electorate.
The DPCC chief also took a dig at AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal at the event for flying business class.
“The same AAP MLAs who came in metro to take oath at the swearing-in ceremony cruised in luxury cars when they came for the photo-shoot after the dissolution of the Delhi Assembly. Some of them are now travelling business class,” Singh said.
