New Delhi: The Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party today slammed the BJP government for slashing prices of petrol and diesel ahead of Delhi Assembly polls saying the move was a “desperate attempt” by the ruling party at the Centre to woo voters of the city.

“As I had predicted, petrol and diesel prices cut days before election. Is it the last desperate gamble,” tweeted AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal.

Congress leader Anand Sharma said the cut in petrol and diesel prices was aimed at wooing voters.  “This is desperation by the BJP government which was exposed earlier as it did not pass on the benefits of sharp fall in crude oil prices to the consumers. This reduction is cosmetic and is aimed at wooing the voters before the polls,” Sharma said.

Petrol price was cut today by Rs 2.42 per litre and diesel by Rs 2.25 a litre.

BJP National Secretary Srikant Sharma said the NDA government was committed to giving relief to the common man by bringing down prices of petrol, diesel and LPG.  The latest cut in fuel prices, which are generally revised on 1st and 15th of the month, comes four days ahead of February 7 polling for Delhi Assembly, for which BJP is locked in a fierce battle with AAP while Congress is also in the fray.
