The BJP on saturday demanded resignation of Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit in the backdrop of Delhi Lokayukta issuing a notice to her for alleged misuse of public funds to gain political mileage during last year's assembly polls.
"It is a serious matter and Dikshit must resign from her post," Leader of Opposition in Delhi Assembly Vijay Kumar Malhotra told reporters.
Calling it "prima facie a case of initiating an inquiry," Lokayukta justice Manmohan Sarin in an order yesterday asked Dikshit to reply in the matter by October 27, the next date of hearing.
Malhotra said Dikshit should resign from her post as the Lokayukta observed that the election strategy was implemented at the "expense of public money".
Sarin had taken cognisance of the complaint filed by BJP leader Vijendra Gupta who alleged that Dikshit had splurged public and government fund for her advertisement campaigns to win the elections last year. PTI
