Kathlal (Guj): BJP on Friday broke into the Congress bastion by winning the Kathlal Assembly by-elections by over 21,000 votes.
The counting for the elections, which took place on September 13, began on Friday with BJP candidate Kanu Dabhi leading from the beginning of the counting from his nearest rival Ghelabhai Zala of Congress.
While, Dabhi got 62,120 votes, the Congress candidate received 40,573 votes. Dabhi won by a margin of over 21,547 from Zala.
The elections for the Kathlal Assembly constituency had passed off peacefully with over 62 per cent electorates casting their vote, on September 13.
The by-elections were necessitated due to death of sitting Congress MLA Gautam Zala.
Kathlal Assembly seat is considered to be a Congress bastion where BJP has never been able to win since the formation of separate Gujarat state in 1960.
This will be a big boost to BJP just ahead of elections to six municipal corporations scheduled to be held on October 10. PTI
