Congress on Thursday hit out at BJP President Nitin Gadkari for describing Ram temple in Ayodhya as its soul, saying the soul of BJP was only "lust for power".
Congress also took on Narendra Modi for reportedly asking why in a democracy the government is not discussing with the opposition on holding talks with Pakistan and said the Gujarat Chief Minister is actually an insult to the democracy.
"The soul of BJP is only lust for power and this has been exemplified by the six years of their rule...BJP has no other ideological commitments except the lust of power and this has been exposed completely," Congress spokesperson Manish Tiwari said.
When informed that Modi had asked why the government was not talking to the opposition in a democracy, he said, "Does Narendra Modi beleive in democracy? A man who runs a state in a manner which is completely fascist, who has presided over the most horrific massacre of the minorities in independent India, do not think he has the legitimacy to even use the word democracy. He is actually an insult to the democracy."
Bringing to the fore yet again BJP's pet issue, Gadkari today said Ram temple in Ayodhya is its soul and appealed to Muslims to adopt a "generous" attitude by giving up their claim on the disputed site. PTI
