New Delhi: After suffering a humiliating defeat in Bihar assembly elections, BJP has revised its campaign strategy for next year's assembly polls in West Bengal with party president Amit Shah skipping his proposed “Utthan Divas” public meeting scheduled for November 30 in Kolkata.
According to a report in Hindustan Times, the party has pushed back its campaign for a few days and Shah is likely to address public meetings in West Bengal in December.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other senior leaders of the party such as Rajnath Singh and Arun Jaitley will hit the campaign trail in January.
BJP general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya, who is appointed the state observer, will hold a rally in West Midnapore before Shah's visit.
Senior state leaders will organise rallies across the state on November 30. In December, the party will launch a “Jail Bharo Andolan” in the state to protest against the “deteriorating” law and order situation, misrule and the Saradha scam.
National leaders said the decision to postpone the campaign was taken before Bihar polls were announced but according to the report said that “leaders wanted bickering within the party after the electoral defeat to subside before the push for West Bengal begins.”
After the defeat in Bihar polls, the Modi-Shah leadership is being questioned in the party. Senior leaders LK Advani, Shantha Kumar, MM Joshi and Yashwant Sinha issued a scathing statement on Tuesday, asking the leadership to take responsibility of the debacle.
Several other leaders, most of them from Bihar which include MP Shatrughan Sinha, have also raised the voice of dissent against the central leadership.
