Kolkata: In an apparent dig at the CPI(M), the senior partner of the Left Front, veteran CPI leader A B Bardhan today said if capitalist and communal forces have to be kept out of power, the big brotherly attitude of major Left parties towards the smaller ones needs to be shrugged off.

“With humility I want to appeal that differences need to be nipped at the bud. The argument of who is big and who is a small party, who is more revolutionary than the other and who is right, needs to stop. It is time to unite all democratic and secular forces of the country,” Bardhan said while addressing a rally here, with CPI(M) general secretary Prakash Karat beside him.

“I want to appeal to Left parties that we all have to come together and keep aside narrow-minded politics,” he said.  The Left Front partners such as CPI, Forward Bloc and RSP, time and again have complained about the big-brotherly attitude of the CPI(M), during various policy-making discussions and seat distribution during elections.  “It is the need of the hour that Left unity should be strengthened if communal and capitalist forces have to be kept at bay,” Bardhan said.

Lashing out at the Trinamool Congress government in West Bengal for not confiscating the property of the Saradha group, Bardhan said only a CBI inquiry into the scam can unearth the money which has been siphoned off.

“A scam of such magnitude took place in a state. Lakhs of people were cheated. But what has this Trinamool Congress government done to book those culprits and recover the money?  The answer is nothing,” he said.

“Why didn't government take any stringent action? Why didn't the government confiscate the property of Saradha Group to recover the money? The government did some gimmick by taking money from the public and returning a portion of the amount to the victims,” Bardhan added.
