This election is a precursor for the assembly elections and people will seek accountability for the five-and-half years of NC-Congress rule,” he said. Sayeed said there are apprehensions that National Conference might resort to “tactical rigging” in Srinagar and Baramulla constituencies also as has been witnessed in the past.
“They allowed voting in their areas and enforced boycott by using stone-pelting in our areas,” he alleged adding, “Even this election, the polling stations in Barmulla, where Muzaffar Hussain Baig is our candidate, have been clustered without taking him into confidence.”
Sayeed claimed the ongoing polls in Jammu and Kashmir were a test for the Election Commission, which he alleged has “failed to act so far on the numerous complaints of violation of model code of conduct against the National Conference”.
“The youth had seen a ray of hope in the democratic process post-2002. Election Commission should not allow this process to be subverted as no one is ready for the consequences which we witnessed for two and half decades after the rigging of 1987 polls in the state,” he claimed.
