Lucknow: The Shia Central Board of Waqfs Uttar Pradesh has removed 27 ‘Mutwallis' or caretakers of endowed properties, including Maulana Kalbe Jawwad and Congress MLA Nawab Kazim Ali, who have been involved in bitter spat with state Cabinet minister Azam Khan.

Maulana Kalbe Jawwad has been removed from the post of caretaker of three Waqfs—Sajjadia Kadeem and Jadeed, Imambara Jhaulal and Rau-e-Sarkar, all in Lucknow, the Board's administrative officer Syed Ghulam Sayyeden Rizvi said here.

He said that a departmental inquiry has also been ordered against Jawwad, in two cases.

Inquiries have also been ordered against few other caretakers, Rizvi added.

Jawwad and Azam Khan have levelled allegations of corruption against each other in connection with the affairs of the Shia Central Board of Waqfs.

Congress MLA from Suar Nawab Kazim Ali, who is considered an arch rival of Azam and has been involed in a turf war with him in Rampur, has also been removed from Auqaf Rampur.

Majority of the Auqafs or endowed properties are located in Lucknow, Bareilly, Rampur, Bijnor, Muzaffarnagar and Meerut.

The official said that new caretakers or management committees have been appointed at all these places.
