Raj Babbar with Smita Patil
After a successful inning in Bollywood, Babbar shifted his focus to politics and since then he continues to be in politics. He was a leading MP from Mulayam Singh Yadav's Samajwadi Party, and later joined the Congress.
Married to Nadira Zaheer, daughter of famous theatre personality Sajjad Zaheer, Babbar had two children, Arya and Juhi. Later, Babbar married actress Smita Patil and had one more son, Prateik. Post Smita's death, Babbar reunited with his first wife and stated living with her.
Raj Babbar has been recently assigned the work of Congress party spokesperson at the national level.
