New Delhi: His excellent dance moves were a treat for eyes. His acting skills made him popular and well known all around the globe in the late 1980s. Govind Arun Ahuja, popularly known as Govinda, delivered brilliant performances in a variety of movies but what made him a shining star was his exceptional dancing styles.Starting off with different genres he later became popular for his comic roles. He became a successful comedy hero and delivered numerous commercially successful comedy films like Aankhen, Raja Babu, Coolie No. 1 and Hero No. 1.He bagged several Filamfare awards for his outstanding performances.Hailing from an acting background, Govinda inherited those outstanding skills of acting. His father, Arun Ahuja had worked in movies in the 1940s and his mother Nirmala Ahuja was also an actress and singer. In 2004, Govinda started new innings of his career by entering politics. In its initial phase Govinda came out with flying colors. He joined Congress and became a Lok Sabha member from Mumbai by defeating 5 time sitting Member of Parliament former Petroleum Minister Ram Naik by over 50,000 votes. His election agenda was focused on prawaas (transportation), swasthya (health) and gyaan (education).His political career faced a set back in its later phase. According to a newspaper report, Govinda did not shell out any money from his MP Local Area Development Fund which was worth Rs. 20 million.He faced several criticisms as an MP.
