Veteran Congress leader Arjun Singh was discharged on Monday from the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi after doctors declared him fit to return home.

Admitted with complaints of congestion in the chest and stomach pain on January 22, Singh, former union HRD minister, was later diagnosed to be suffering from mild infection in the chest, constipation and colitis(inflamation of the large intestine).

"His condition is alright now. We discharged him today afternoon after thorough investigations. He was admitted with complaints of abdominal pain and chest congestion on Friday night," Dr Randeep Guleria, professor with the Department of Medicine, AIIMS, said.

"Investigations revealed that he was suffering from constipation and colitis. A team of four doctors headed by Dr Guleria was treating him. This was because he had other complications to be dealt with," Dr Y K Gupta, spokesperson with the hospital, said. 79-year-old Singh was taken to AIIMS after complaining of chest congestion, cold and fever. He was admitted to a private ward in the hospital. PTI
