Battle to watch: Amethi [Rahul Gandhi Vs Smriti Irani Vs Kumar Vishwas]

New Delhi: Amethi is perhaps the most prestigious Lok Sabha constituency for the Congress party is recent times. And the reason is very obvious. The seat has been represented by Sanjay Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi.This constituency covers the entire Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj Nagar district. Amethi Lok Sabha constituency consists of 5 Vidhan Sabha seats namely, Tiloi, Salon,Jagdishpur,Gauriganj and Amethi.Amethi will be going to polls on May 7.Amethi Lok Sabha constituency can be easily termed as the fiefdom of the Congress party. Sanjay Gandhi won this seat in 1980. Rajiv Gandhi won this seat in 1981, 1984, 1989 and 1991. After Rajiv Gandhi's assassination, the family loyalist Satish Sharma won the seat twice in 1991 and 1996. In 1998, another family loyalist Dr Sanjay Singh turned a rebel and won the seat on a BJP ticket. In 1999, the seat was won by Sonia Gandhi. From 2004 onwards, this seat is being represented by Congress party vice president Rahul Gandhi.In the ongoing 2014 elections, the battle for Amethi seat has become very exciting.It was Kumar Vishwas of AAP who decided to challenge Rahul from this seat even before the elections were announced. The entry of Kumar Vishwas, close friend of AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal, made the battle very interesting.Kumar Vishwas was attacked by Congress supporters while he was campaigning in the constituency. Kumar is camping in the constituency and is trying his best to cause a major upset in these general elections.The BJP has fielded Smriti Irani, the TV actress-turned-politician, from this seat and now the battle has become triangular.Dharmendra Pratap Singh of BSP is also in the fray but the main battle is between Rahul, Smriti and Kumar Vishwas. The people of Amethi seem to be enamored of Gandhi family for quite long time despite the fact that the constituency faces serious issues like poverty, unemployment and lack of basic amenities. Kumar Vishwas of AAP and Smriti Irani of BJP are trying to makethe lack of development a big election issue . The Congress party, on the other hand, has pressed Priyanka Gandhi into action and she has termed Smriti Irani an outsider. Priyanka is campaigning relentlessly in the constituency and is succeeding in striking a chord with the electorate. Will Rahul succeed in retaining this prestigious seat?
