What if I direct Police to keep quiet for an hour, HC judge asks Akbaruddin Owaisi

New Delhi, Jan 11: Andhra Pradesh High Court has taken strong exception to the hate speeches made by MIM leader Akbaruddin Owaisi. Justice L Narasimha Reddy, who was hearing Owaisi's plea against multiple cases being filed against him at different places, blasted Owaisi for challenging the country and hurting the feelings of a particular community. “I have watched your entire speech on You Tube and it's highly objectionable,” quipped Justice Reddy. A visibly angry Justice Reddy asked Owaisi, “What will happen if I cross my limits to direct police to keep quiet for an hour. You must not forget that it was police who saved you when you were attacked.” Justice Reddy was obviously referring to Dec 24 speech of Owaisi in ‘Nirmal' town of Adilabad where he had said, “the population of your Hindustan is 1 billion, while we Muslims are 250 million. Muslims of India would need only 15 minutes without the police to show the Hindus of India who is more powerful - the Hindustan of 1 billion or the 250 million Muslims." Justice Reddy wondered how can a public representative, who has been elected by people cutting across communal lines, make such an irresponsible speech. “Akbaruddin's statement has hurt feelings of a particular community of this country. And it is equivalent to challenging the country too. This country has made your father and brother Members of Parliament. After being an elected representative, how could you justify your act,” asked Justice Reddy. Justice Reddy reminded Akbaruddin Owaisi that his father Salahuddin Owaisi got two Hindus elected as Hyderabad Mayor on party tickets. “Your father made two Hindus mayor of Hyderabad from party ticket. He set brilliant example of communal harmony. But this kind of speech from Salahuddin Owaisi's son is unbelievable,” said Justice Reddy. Justice Reddy reminded Owaisi that two cousels with Rama names (DV Sitaram Murthy and Advocate Ramchandra Rao) were defending him despite the fact that he made derogatory remarks against Lord Rama. It should be recalled that Akbaruddin Owaisi is facing multiple cases relating to sedition and hurting the religious sentiments of Hindu community. In addition to his Dec 24 speech, Akbaruddin had insulted Hindu goddess ‘Bhagyalakshmi' on Dec 12. Owaisi had sarcastically remarked,” “who is Bhagyalakshmi, never heard of her. Shout slogans such that the Bhagya also shakes and Lakshmi also falls down." And the crowd responded by shouting slogans of Allahu Akbar.
