New Delhi: A delegation of the Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday urged President Pranab Mukherjee to direct the Aam Aadmi Party-led government here to work within the ambit of the constitution.

Led by Delhi BJP chief Satish Upadhyay, the delegation met President Mukherjee at Rashtrapati Bhavan and submitted a memorandum accusing the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government of "deliberately disregarding the constitutional provisions".

"In every matter, be it administrative postings, political appointments, taking administrative decisions needing the Lt. Governor's approval, they have violated the constitutional provisions and created controversies," Upadhyay said.

The BJP said the Delhi government had disregarded the authority of Lt. Governor Najeeb Jung in the appointment of the chief of the Delhi Commission for Women, appointment of directors to the boards of power supply companies and the hike in the circle rates of agricultural land.

The arrest of former Delhi minister Jitendra Singh Tomar in a fake degree case and the charge sheeting of MLA Somnath Bharti for disrespecting a woman were also raised.

"We have requested the President to stop Delhi from falling into constitutional crisis and warn the Delhi government to work within the ambit of constitutional provisions," Upadhyay said.
