Shillong: Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari will dedicate the Shillong Bypass and Umiam-Jorabad four lane highway to the people tomorrow, state government officials said today.
Gadkari, who was on a four-day tour of the North Eastern states, would inaugurate the Shillong Bypass, two years after completion, and the Umiam Jorabad four-lane highway, which was part of the National Highway-40, they said.
The 47 km-long Umiam-Jorabad four lane highway connects NH-40 and NH-44 leading to Mizoram and Tripura, bypassing the congested state capital.
Estimated at Rs 220.35 crore, the project was completed in record time, two years after work began in 2011.
Gadkari would reach Shillong from Guwahati tomorrow morning to dedicate the Shillong Bypass and the four lane of the NH 40 from Jorabad to Umiam, an official statement said.
After the programme, the Union Minister would leave for Guwahati to lay the foundation stone of ten road projects in several parts of Assam.
On May 2, Gadkari would hold review meetings with Chief Ministers, PWD ministers, Chief Secretaries of eight Northeastern states including Sikkim before leaving for Delhi on the same day.
