Mumbai: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis today said that a strong police force of 15,000 personnel will be required to handle security arrangements in the upcoming Kumbh mela in Nashik.

Raising the issue during the Question Hour, NCP MLC Hemant Takle said that barely three months are left for the Kumbh mela and the government is yet to fill the vacant police posts.

In response to his question, Fadnavis said that out of 273 posts for police officials in Nashik, 28 are lying vacant while out of a total 3036 posts of police personnel, 95 are still unoccupied.

"We will require a total of more than 15000 strong police force to take care of security during the Kumbh mela. To do this, police from across the state will have to be deployed there," Fadnavis said.

The CM said that the tendering process for temporary installation of CCTV cameras has already begun, and the installation is underway.

"While speaking about the Kumbh mela issue in the House before, the LoP (Dhananjay Munde) had said that there is corruption happening with regards to giving tenders for installation of cameras. Subsequently, an inquiry has been initiated and it will be over before the Kumbh mela starts," Fadnavis assured.
