Prime Minister Narendra Modi today congratulated Priest-turned politician, Yogi Adityanath for becoming the 21st chief minister of Uttar Pradesh and the fourth from the saffron party.

PM Modi in his tweet said, “Congratulations to Yogi Adityanath Ji, Keshav Prasad Maurya Ji, Dinesh Sharma Ji & all those who took oath today. Best wishes for serving UP.”

The election of Yogi Adityanath, the controversial mascot of hardline Hindutva, by 312 newly-elected MLAs took many by surprise as he was not considered a top choice for the post. 

Being confident about newly elected government PM further said, “I have immense confidence that this new team will leave no stone unturned in making UP Uttam Pradesh. There will be record development.”

The 44-year-old five-term MP from Gorakhpur was unanimously elected the BJP legislature party leader at a meeting of the newly elected MLAs. 

Underlining the agenda of development in Uttar Pradesh, PM said, “Our sole mission & motive is development. When UP develops, India develops. We want to serve UP’s youth & create opportunities for them.”

Adityanath was today sworn in as the CM of the state at a ceremony at Kanshiram Smriti Upvan where PM Modi and BJP chief Amit Shah were also present.
