In a bid to promote scientific excellence and innovation in the state, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has announced a cash prize of Rs 100 crore for any scientist from Andhra Pradesh who wins a Nobel Prize.

This is the second time that Naidu has made such an offer. He had earlier announced a Rs 10 crore reward for anyone winning the prestigious award.

The reward announced by Naidu on Wednesday is about 17 times more than the prize money given out with the Nobel award, which is about Rs 5.96 crore.

No other state government in India has made such a grand offer to its scientists.

Speaking at the National Children's Science Congress at Sri Padmavathi Women's University here, Naidu advised children to enjoy the work they do and work hard to accomplish it.

"Small innovations will lead to great discoveries," he said.

On the occasion, Naidu also felicitated 2015 Nobel Prize Winner for Physics Prof Takaaki Kajita of Japan. Union Minister of State for Science and Technology YS Chowdary also spoke at the event.
