In a brazen display of abuse of power, mafia-turned-politician Atiq Ahmad, who was recently handed an Assembly ticket from the Samajwadi Party, allegedly barged into an educational institution along with his henchmen and assaulted staff and management officials among others.
The incident relates to Wednesday evening when the former MP allegedly barged into the campus of Sam Higginbottom Institute of Agriculture, Technology and Science (SHIATS) in Allahabad’s Naini area and assaulted the staff and management officials of the institute.
As per reports, the incident occurred after a student who was rusticated for cheating during university exams retaliated by bringing along with him the former MP and some 50 henchmen to the campus. Teachers and management staff of the university were assaulted. The goons also thrashed the security staff of the university’s vice-chancellor.
It is reported that Atiq was angry over the student’s rustication, who is one of his relatives. The entire episode has been caught on CCTV camera. The footage shows Atiq Ahmad, along with his associated armed with rifles, entering the campus and thrashing a teacher en route.
Meanwhile, Allahabad SSP Shalabh Mathur told Times of India, “Police have been probing the matter and a case under Section 307 (attempt to murder), 395 (robbery), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 504 (intentional insult) and 147 (rioting) of IPC and & Criminal Law Amendment Act has been lodged with Naini police station.”
The institute authorities have claimed that they had earlier lodged a criminal case against two students – Saif Siddiqui and Saqib Ahmad – on the charges of threatening teachers and misbehaviour.
Following this, the former MP and his supporters were constantly pressuring the SHIATS authorities to take back the case.
Atiq Ahmad, who is an accused in over a dozen criminal cases, including BSP MLA Raju Pal’s murder, recently got an Assembly ticket from the ruling Samajwadi Party and will be contesting elections from Kanpur cantonment area.
