New Delhi: Delhi Assembly today witnessed high drama when BJP MLA Vijender Gupta stood on the bench after he was not allowed to speak.
The BJP MLA wanted to speak on the appointment of AAP MLA Rakhi Birla as the Deputy Speaker of the House but he was not allowed by Speaker Ram Niwas Goel. Following this, he began protesting and soon stood up on top of the bench, taking everyone by surprise.
He also demanded action from the Arvind Kejriwal government on the water tanker scam that had taken place during the earlier Congress regime under Sheila Dikshit.
Initially amused, the Chief Minister soon lost his cool and shouted back at Gupta, threatening him with exposing the role of Gupta’s wife in connection with the pension scam.
“The Delhi government must be given control of the ACB (anti-corruption bureau) to ensure a fair probe into the water tanker scam. And in one month I will bring the culprits to the book or will change my name,” Kejriwal said.
“BJP has no respect for democratic institutions like Legislative Assembly. Look at BJP’s Leader of Opposition’s conduct,” Kejriwal later tweeted.
AAP MLA Rakhi Birla was today elected the Deputy Speaker of the Delhi Assembly.

The proposal to make Birla the Deputy Speaker was made by CM Kejriwal and seconded by Deputy CM Manish Sisodia. The House, which has 67 MLAs of the AAP, backed the proposal by voice vote.
Birla succeeds Bandana Kumari, also of the AAP who resigned last week.
