Union Textiles Minister Smriti Irani today celebrated the ‘Raksha Bandhan’ festival with Indian soldiers posted at the Siachan Base Camp Galcier, the highest battleground in the world.
“It is a great honour for me to celebrate this festival with my brothers who guard the borders,” Smriti Irani said.
On this occasion, General S K Patiyal said that it was a great honour for the soldiers posted at Siachen Base Camp to celebrate this festival with the union minister.
“It’s an honour for all of us. It boosts up our morale. I thank Ma’am that she came here to tie ‘rakhi’ from such a long distance.
All the seven women Union ministers of Modi cabinet will be visiting border areas to tie ‘rakhis’ to Indian soldiers as part of the "Zara yaad karo kurbani" programme of the government.
Union Minister for Food Processing Harsimrat Kaur Badal yesterday tied 'rakhis' to the Border Security Force (BSF) troopers deployed on the international border at Attari, 30 km from Amritsar.
Along with the minister, girls from colleges and schools, and also social activists tied 'rakhis' to the officers and troopers of the force.
Rakshabandhan, the festival that symbolises the brother-sister bond, is being celebrated throughout the country today.
