New Delhi: Sheila Dikshit is unlikely to be projected as the Congress party's chief ministerial face for the upcoming Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh in 2017 after the party veteran turned down the offer, reports said today.

The name of the former Delhi chief minister started doing the rounds after Dikshit’s meeting with Congress president Sonia Gandhi and party vice-president Rahul Gandhi on June 16.

Party’s key poll strategist Prahsant Kishor had, according to reports called for a Brahmin face to project as the CM candidate for the polls in the state. However, the advances by the party’s high command were turned down by Dikshit, an NDTV report said today citing party sources.

Prahant Kishor had also recommended the names of Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi for the post of CM in the event of the Congress garnering enough seats in the highly divided electorate. However, that offer too was soon turned down.

Dikshit, a three-time chief minister of Delhi, is embroiled in the water tanker scam pertaining to her tenure as chief minister and has been accused of wrongdoing by the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) dispensation.

An FIR has been registered by the Anti Corruption Bureau against her and she could be called for questioning in the case.
