A day after Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar ridiculed senior Digvijaya Singh by thanking him for allowing BJP to form government in the coastal state, the Congress leader today hit out, accusing him of ‘cheating’ people’s mandate in the recently held Assembly polls.

In a series of tweets this morning, Singh, who faced severe flak for his role as in-charge of Goa during the polls, asked Parrikar to thank Union Minister Nitin Gadkari for ‘aggressive MLA buying’, thus helping the BJP to form the government in the coastal state.

Demanding an apology from the CM, Singh, said, “Shame on you Mr Parrikar and your hunger for Power. You have cheated the People of Goa. Apologise to them."

"Manohar Parrikar thanks me for letting him form government in Goa. If he has to thank anyone, it is Nitin Gadkari who did aggressive MLA shopping on 12th March early morning from an hotel in Goa,” he added.

Singh’s remarks came a day after Parrikar took a dig at him by thanking him for the government formation in the state.

"I also thank Digvijaya Singh, because he was roaming around in Goa and I was able to form the government," Parrikar had said amid protests from Congress MPs.

The Congress MP further slammed Goa Governor Mridula Sinha for violating the Constitution by not inviting the single largest party to form government.

"And the Goa Governor who violated the Constitution, Sarkaria Commission guideline and the Supreme Court...and robbed the mandate of people of Goa," his tweet reads.

In Goa, the Congress party had emerged as the single largest party with 18 MLAs, but the BJP with the support of 22 MLAs, including 13 its own lawmakers, managed to form the government.

Few days ago, Singh had invited sharp criticism from his own party MLAs who accused him of stopping them from staking claim to form the government.
