Sandeep Kumar, the sacked Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) minister, was today sent to 14-day judicial custody by Delhi’s Tis Hazari court.
Special Judge Poonam Chaudhary remanded Kumar in judicial custody till September 23 after he was presented before her on expiry of his police custody.
The former Delhi minister was arrested after the woman, who figured with Sandeep Kumar in an objectionable video, lodged rape charges against him on September 3 at the Sultanpuri police station in New Delhi.
Sandeep Kumar, former Social Welfare and Women and Child Development Minister in Delhi government , was booked under section 376 (rape), 328 (causing hurt by means of poison with intent to commit an offence) of IPC, under section 67A of IT Act (punishment for publishing or transmitting of material containing sexually explicit act) and Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act (public servant taking gratification for an official act).
AAP supremo and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had sacked Sandeep Kumar after the CD was released to the media.
Kejriwal claimed to have sacked him within 30 minutes of the CD coming to his knowledge. However, Sandeep Kumar said that he resigned on his own on moral grounds although he denied all the charges levelled against him.
The woman has alleged that Sandeep raped her after offering her a spiked drink around 11 months ago when she approached him seeking help to obtain a ration card.
